Notes - According the Tupper Family Association, the Tuppers were originally a German family from the Kassel area in the Electorate of Hesse. In the early 1500s they converted to Protestantism. As a result of harsh laws against Protestants instituted by Charles V, the Holy Roman Emperor, two Tupper brothers emigrated from Hesse in 1525. One went to Holland and the other to the County of Kent in England. Our Thomas Tupper was supposedly a descendent of the Kent brother.ps://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Tupper-26#_note-1">[9]
The Tupper Family Association also states he was born 28 Jan 1578 in Bury County, Sussex, the son of Henry Tupper and grandson of Richard Tupper. No specific record is provided, however this year of birth is supported in the Plymouth colony records, which states he was born in 1578 and his age at death was over 98 years." target="_blank">https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Tupper-26#_note-deathcert">[

REV - He was always an active churchman and was a charter member of the Sandwich Church. When the 1st pastor left left in 1654, Thomas conducted religious services at the meetinghouse. Although he was not an ordained minister he had the approval of the General court at Plymouth incl. the authority to perform marriages. Thus, although a layman technically, he was sometimes addressed as Rev. Tupper, as he is referred to in the 1907 Nye Gene.
