    • Based on information in Emma, and Gustov's, death certificates as well as census records, it's likely that Gustuv lived at their 'summer' home located in Wind Lake, Norway Wisconsin, while Emma stayed at their home at 1626 South 22nd street in Milwaukee with their youngest child, daughter Elsie (who was likely single).

      Mom (Susan Theisen) talks of the stories her father (Art Rohleder) used to mention regarding him spending summers at his grandfather's summer home at Wind Lake. Mom recalls the home being on the lake and remembers seeing pictures of the family there.

    • Born in Friedrichshof, Arnswalde, Brandenburg, Prussia (according to his marriage record) on 09 Sep 1857.

      Friedrichshof was a "gut" or estate in Cranzin (Kranzin) in the kreis Arnswalde. Gustav's father died in Cranzin (according to Gustav's marriage record).

      In the closing days of World War II, the advancing Soviet red army destroyed much of the Arnswalde area, including record repositories such as civilian government buildings as well as churches. After World War II, the eastern part of Brandenburg (including Friedrichshof and Cranzin) were given to Poland, and what remained of the German records were thrown in the ground by the first Polish militia and covered with soil in May and June 1945.       Arnswalde is now known as Choszczno in Poland and Kranzin now called Krzecin and Granow called today Granowo.

      Gustav married Emma in Rheinsberg, Ostprignitz-Ruppin, Brandenburg, Germany on 29 Aug 1880.

      Gustav was the last of his family to emigratefrom Germany, arriving in NY in May 1885 with wife Emma and first three children, including great grandfather Franz Paul R "Frank. Gustav and family arrived at Ellis Island with 2 pieces of luggage. This was about 4 years after his mother emigrated (with her 2nd husband) with Gustav's sister Bertha, and about a year after his younger brother Albert emigrated.

      Family photo is probably circa 1905, in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, based on approximate ages of little Elsa and Walter in the front.
